Graham Anderson
The pleasures of the disenchanted landscapes
September 17 - October 22, 2005
opening reception: Saturday, September 17, seven - nine pm
Nice & Fit is pleased to present eight new paintings by Graham Anderson.
Recognizable structures such as swimming pools and edges of baseball fields are irrationally placed in natural landscapes where silence seems to reign. Boulders are bypassed by pink-yellow clouds traveling fast against a quirky sky - (Monet, Rothko, animation, Hockney come to mind).
Painted with equal measures of cartoonish, expressionist and controlled gestures they offer an unusual kind of tactility, the paint barely protruding from the panel.
“The landscape painter in the truest sense treats his subject matter freely in order to create his own poetic version of reality, calling upon all the resources of art” (Goethe).
But here, a landscape is more than a landscape. |
