Frederic D
Goodbye
April 5 – May 12, 2007
opening reception: Thursday, April 5, 7pm
Frederic D removes picture barriers and compresses genres and aesthetics,
from computer games and video to documentary and narrative film. “Pictures
on pictures on pictures, loaded with emotion, from various angles, with
overlays that you can’t really absorb”.
Living with images and constantly creating images, he collapses time and
space with a moral tenderness that upturns the feeling “of floating
in all that stuff without a real anchor” to a conjuring moment of
truth and beauty.
A new installation of layered photos printed on various plastics that
echo a state of “not being there” (escape, dreams, drugs,
goodbyes) will be on view at Nice & Fit. The physical presence of
the large portraits that assume an otherwordly dimension is heightened
by their positioning on the intimate space of the artists' bed. "Good
colours/Bad colours”, his video collage of shots in the streets
of Kreuzberg and Neukölln composed pretty much like a painting will
inaugurate the Nice & Fit Showroom, located next door to the current
Brunnenstrasse 13 address.
Frederic D (b. in Hamburg in 1974) lives and works in Berlin. He studied
Film and Theater at the Freie Universität, Berlin. He has directed
several music videos including “Everybody’s darling”,
2006 (Soffy O) and “The City”, 2004 (Jamie Lidell). His feature
film “Miss Baghdad”, a seminal “youth drama” on
political and aesthetic co-option set in the Mitte scene of the early
00s, was recently screened at the Jeu de Paume, Paris and the Schirn Kunsthalle,
Frankfurt. This is his first one person exhibition with Nice & Fit.
